The Basics to a Perfect Skincare Routine
Beauty trends come and go, but the desire for beautiful skin is definitely not going anywhere!
Everyone wants that youthful, and picture-perfect complexion, but with all these changing trends it can be tough to know where to start. No need to fret though, we’ve got the answers to your questions!
The key to getting your skin in check is building the perfect skin care routine for YOUR skin type specifically. Some questions you should ask yourself in order to get your routine going include:
What are the key steps of a strong skin care routine?
There are three main steps to the basic skin care routine:
Cleansing: Washing your face; cleansers get rid of the bulk of unwanted oils, pollution, bacteria, and products left on the skin.
Toning: Balancing the skin; toners nourish the skin while restoring its natural pH balance, and also remove any leftover debris missed by cleansers.
Moisturizing: Softening and hydrating the skin; moisturizers provide your skin with the proper nutrition in order to avoid any irritation and maintain its oil production.
What do I want to improve?
Let’s face it (no pun intended) nobody is perfect, and everybody has something they’d like to improve about their skin. Some common facial skin flaws are acne, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, large pores, and undereye circles.
Thankfully the skin care industry is constantly innovating, so there are tons of products catered to all of your skin’s specific needs and desires. Countless skin treatments can be prescribed, found over the counter, and even more of them are in the form of DIY at-home treatments! We actually carry a great selection of products tailored to specific skin improvement 😉 Our masks control acne, our retinol moisturizer prevents wrinkles, and our serums do quite a bit too!
Based on the aspects of your skin that you’d like to improve, steps outside of the three basics come into play. Masks, serums, exfoliators, you name it, all of them can be great additions to your skin care family.
What type of skin do I have?
Knowing your skin type is a major key to creating the perfect skin care routine. With all your skin care steps, it is important to select the right types of products for your skin.
There are four general skin types:
Normal: skin with no or few imperfections/sensitivity, barely visible pores and a radiant appearance.
Combination: skin that is dry in some areas and oily in others (typically around the nose, forehead and chin, aka the “T-zone area”)
Dry: skin that is rough, may have red patches, and is more prone to cracking or peeling.
Oily: skin with enlarged pores, a shiny complexion, and that is more prone to blackheads and breakouts.
Once you figure out your skin type, it’s all about making the right choices with your products. Now people with combination or normal skin may find themselves able to use pretty much any product. However, those with oily skin should lean towards oil-free products so that the skin’s oil production isn’t amplified. Those with dry skin should stick to products that contain added moisture, and consider adding extra moisturizers and serums to compensate.
Answer these questions with your own skin as your guide, and you’ll have a killer skin care routine in no time!
