Skincare Superfoods: Green Tea
We’re taking a turn for round two of our superfoods blog series. We’re going liquid, baby! Let us talk at you about green tea for a minute. Whether you’re an avid drinker or skip tea altogether, you should know all the benefits of this magical drank.
First things first, what is it? Green tea is made from Camellia sinensis leaves. They undergo a process of withering and oxidization and the types of green tea vary depending on their growing conditions. The reason it has so many health benefits is due to the fermentation process being avoided. As a result, green tea retains its maximum amount of antioxidants.
What are some benefits you ask? Here’s 3 big ones:
Green tea is stocked full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory activities, which are always great for your skin’s health. Bonus: studies have shown that applying green tea straight to the skin can reduce sun damage.
Green Tea can make you Smarter!
While it doesn’t have as much as coffee, green tea contains caffeine. There’s just enough of the stimulant that it produces a response in your brain without creating the “jittery” effects associated with too much caffeine. It also contains the amino acid L-Theanine, which works well with caffeine to improve brain function.
It can Burn Fat AND Improve Physical Performance!
Green tea has been known to boost metabolism and increase fat burning in the short term. While not all studies agree with this, some people swear by it.
The skin benefits sold us on green tea a long time ago. If you’re looking to incorporate it into your routine we recommend drinking 2 cups a day to notice a difference. Try it out for yourself and let us know what you think! Enjoy!
