Keep your Skin Protected this Fall with Retinol & SPF!
Fall Skincare Routine Tips
The autumn season is ramping up! That means picking apples, comfy sweaters, and enjoying the beautiful foliage as the leaves change color. While spending more time outside can benefit our mental, and physical health, it has its dangers even in the fall (when it may not seem so sunny). Sun rays don’t just affect you when you can clearly see the sun. The UV light can travel through clouds and still cause your skin some harm. Sun rays can be very damaging to the skin, which makes it crucial to be aware of some skincare guidelines. Read on to know about the importance of moisturizing, using SPF, and how to keep treating your skin safely throughout the fall season.
The natural pigment of our skin is called melanin. Melanin’s purpose is to protect the layers of our skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays (wether you can see the sun or not). This protection is very important in order to keep the skin from aging and to help prevent elasticity-reduction. The reason why time in the sun gives your skin that bronzy tan, is actually melanin. When your skin is exposed to sunlight, there is an increase in melanin production, meaning your skin increases in pigment. And while most enjoy their tan, it can permanently damage the skin if overdone. Sunburns happen when your skin is exposed to too much sun, and the high dose of UV rays actually kills skin cells; which can lead to more serious damage like hyperpigmentation, and even skin cancer. Due to this risk, it is vital to use SPF. This doesn’t just apply to the hot and sunny summer months… You can definitely get some sun damage during the months in autumn, so we suggest maintaining a careful moisturizing regimen even during these cooler months.
SPF is your skin’s best friend when you are outdoors. It is recommended you use UV broad spectrum SPF15 – 30 sunscreens while staying outside for long periods of time. To be a little safer during this upcoming fall, we recommend adding it to your skincare routine. Even though SPF use will protect your skin from serious damage, exposure to the sun still leaves your skin vulnerable to signs of aging. The solution to that: retinol!
Retinol is the answer to all of your anti-aging skincare desires. It is a derivative of Vitamin A and works wonders to reduce and prevent aging of the skin. When applied topically (in products like the Retinol Moisturizer), retinol works alongside the retinoid receptors in our skin to regulate the function of our skin cells, and maintain balanced collagen and elastin production. Retinol improves skin texture, and pigmentation because it allows for the skin to regenerate faster.
Since retinol is constantly regenerating skin cells, it can make some people’s skin a little more sensitive to sunlight exposure. That doesn’t mean you can’t get your anti-aging fix though! It just means you need to use retinol safely. Luckily for you, our Retinol Cream only contains 1% Active Retinol, so you don’t have to worry about being too sensitive to the sun. Our unique blend of ingredients makes it so that skin doesn’t have a negative reaction when out in the sun for long periods of time. We do, however, apply SPF regularly after moisturizing, just for that added safety.
With these tips in mind, you’re set for the autumn season! Simply rejuvenate with retinol, and protect with SPF. Keep that sunscreen on lock! While the months start cooling down, and the leaves start to turn, keep these skin care tips in mind and your skin will thank you later!
