While the holiday season is a beautiful time of year that’s traditionally filled with love and joy, it can be an incredibly stressful and overwhelming time too. Your time and finances are stretched and expectations can take a toll. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the holidays, so we’re hooking you up with some of our favourite tips for staying sane this holiday season.
While it may sound hokey and predictable, taking a moment to breathe is more important than you might think. The holidays can bring along stressful times and if you get caught up in all the moving parts without taking a moment to pause, you’ll lose yourself in the madness. Whenever you start to feel overwhelmed, pause and take a few deep breaths – it’s amazing what it can do for you.
Keep a Schedule
If you’re not the type to keep a schedule, the holidays might be the perfect time for you to start. There are so many things to keep track of like parties, appointments and to-do’s, that it can be super easy to lose track and feel overwhelmed. Bringing some order to your schedule can help you feel more organized and less crazy – you’re welcome!
Taking advantage of time off to catch up with friends and family can be really great, but it can also be overwhelming. When every moment of your “free time” is scheduled with others it can be hard to ever feel truly relaxed. Don’t feel pressure to make a million plans this year – get comfortable with saying “no” if that’s what you need. Your friends and family are who love you most – they’ll understand if you need to take a me-day so you can stay healthy.
Let It Be
A lot of stress and unhappiness comes from unmet expectations. Some of the best advice we’ve ever received is to just let things be the way they are. It’s up to you to find the joy and beauty in things, not the other way around. So Grandma is running a little late for dinner, so what? Now you have some extra time to set the table, or finish sweeping the floor you forgot to get to. Let your positive vibes help you sail through the holiday season with ease – you got this.
